About Us

Our Ambition

The Stew Mel Lions aspire to be an outstanding and inclusive mini-rugby club in North Edinburgh, providing a positive experience for every player, parent, and coach.

Our players have fun at training and in games. They feel part of the team, and improve and develop as players at their own pace, while learning life lessons along the way.

Our parents are a fundamental part of our community and are encouraged to contribute to the running of the club should they wish.

Our volunteer coaches focus on providing a positive environment for the development of all players.

We hope everyone enjoys their time at Inverleith.

Our Values

We believe in three core values:

Teamwork: Work hard as a team to achieve your potential.

Respect: Treat everyone fairly and equally.

Fun: Smile, laugh, and enjoy time playing with friends.

Our Teams

In our P1 to P3 year groups, the focus for our boys and girls is on fun games that encourage evasion and ball-handling skills, which then develop into non-contact ‘touch rugby’ games.

From P4 to P7, the boys train in year groups and develop their skills as they progress. The Lionesses bring together girls from P4 - P7 for enjoyable combined sessions. For both the boys and girls, contact is a feature from P4 onwards, with a focus on teaching safe tackling technique.

Throughout the season, we regularly host visitors at our home festivals, and visit other clubs throughout Scotland. Everyone gets an opportunity to play and we select balanced squads, with a primary focus on enjoyment and development, rather than competition.

Of course, safety is paramount, both on and off the pitch. All of our coaches are PVG checked through Disclosure Scotland, many of our coaches have completed SRU coaching qualifications, and we have a number of coach and parent first aiders across the club. We also have all of the necessary Covid-19 procedures in place to ensure a safe environment for all children and adults.

We would love to welcome your child to Inverleith. Please get in touch with our Membership Secretary who can provide contact details for the relevant age group.
